Here are some of the things that PC & Kristin said during the live chat, I couldn’t find the questions they were answering because it was pretty hectic but they did a good job of answering the questions so you would have an idea of what they were talking about.
A question and answer that I found most interesting was about “how were the red fledglings made?” the answer is at the bottom of the discussion, if you are interested. Enjoy! [:
Okay, I’ll start! First there really isn’t much of an update on the movie. The screenplay is complete (and excellent). I have no control over the actual making of the movie, though, so I have to sit and wait and be frustrated with all of you!
I love working with Kristin. I do all of the writing, then I send the manuscripts to her, and she serves as a teen voice/pop culture editor. She has my back! It helps me relax and get into the plot.
We haven’t decided who Zoey will settle down with. We both feel very strongly that it is unhealthy for a teenager to be focused on one guy and one guy only. Zoey will choose a life mate when she is mature and experienced enough to truly know herself
Duchess is based off a mixture of my youngest brother’s Labs. He has had some super cool dogs!
Nala is based on a real cat - Kristin’s Nala!
Spin off series: well, I don’t really know. I’m just going to tell the stories as they come to me. I am including other storylines in the books. I can tell you that Erik is going to have a little story line of his own in the next book (no, he won’t be with Zoey).
And I have agreed to write mini-book back stories about Dragon and Anastasia, Lenobia, and Neferet. They’ll be coming out between the releases of the big books.
Advice for aspiring authors:
You can go to my blog archives for an entire post on this subject but briefly - my advice is to treat becoming an author as you would any other job. Research it. Learn about the business of publishing. Hone your writing skills. Yes, grammar, spelling, and punctuation count. Know manuscript format. Know how a manuscript turns into a book. Think of it as a job (which it is), and don’t romanticize it. Then sit down and write and write and rewrite and rewrite.
My fav character is Damien! He’s so cute (especially in real life)! I love him!
The books will stop being told from Zoey’s POV when her story is finished, but that’s not happening anytime soon
I think I like to write from Aphrodite’s perspective best. She cracks me up.
I spelled vampyre with a y because I liked how it looked. Heehees.
I’m not sure about the chapter from Nyx’s pov. I’m afraid I’d have to give away too many plot spoilers. I mean, she’s a goddess! She knows things mortals don’t know…
some of my characters will get a happy ending. Some won’t. Just like in real life..
Mom writes the first draft and I serve as her teen voice editor. I also do a lot of deleting, but she pretends not to notice! Heehee!
We don’t really ever disagree about anything… probably because we don’t live together and I can just ignore her calls. Hahahaha!!!
Rephiam = ruh-phi-um
Kristin and I have talked about our next series. We already have a basic outline for it. It’s paranormal, but not vampyre, and it’s set in a post-apocalyptic world. Yes, it would be YA.
Kalona was inspired by the Lucifer myth.
If I could have an affinity I’d like it to be with earth!
I would have an affinity for all of the elements because I’m frickin’ awesome.
changed pov so I could tell the stories of the other characters. First person from one character’s pov is too limiting for multiple books.
Would I change anything from earlier books? YES! I had no idea when I wrote MARKED that I’d be writing a dozen books in the HoN world. Had I known I would have made some of my world rules broader so I don’t write myself into plot corners
I can’t tell you what the new book is about because I’ve barely started it.
Writing from Rephaim’s pov is interesting. He’s a complex character and he doesn’t think like “normal” kids. He’s a challenge, but I like that.
MARKED took the longest to write.
I was inspired to use the tattoos by ancient goddess lore. Often when a High Priestess chose the path of a goddess she was marked in some way - tattoos were one of the ways
I can’t tell you how the red fledglings were created because that’s a plot spoiler. I will tell you it has to do with more than just Neferet
